Volkswagen ID.Buzz charging cable

Volkswagen ID.Buzz charging cable

11kW
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Volkswagen ID.Buzz charging cable

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is a fully electric modern reinterpretation of the classic VW Microbus, built on the MEB platform and available in two wheelbase lengths with a choice of powertrains. The standard-wheelbase model seats five and uses an 84 kWh battery (79 kWh usable) with a single 210 kW (286 hp) rear motor, delivering a WLTP range of up to 455 km (283 miles) and a 0–100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds. The long-wheelbase model adds a third row for six or seven passengers and a larger 91 kWh battery (86 kWh usable), extending WLTP range to up to 472 km (293 miles). The GTX variant is available in both wheelbases, adding a second front motor for 250 kW (340 hp) all-wheel drive: the SWB GTX returns up to 401 km (249 miles) WLTP, and the LWB GTX up to 452 km (281 miles), both reaching 100 km/h in 6.1–6.5 seconds.

All variants share the same charging architecture. The combined CCS2 inlet is on the right rear flank of the vehicle. On the standard-wheelbase model, the sliding rear passenger door travels close to the charge port when fully opened, which is worth noting when plugging in at a busy stop. The onboard AC charger is 11 kW three-phase across the entire range. For DC rapid charging, the 79 kWh battery — in both SWB RWD and SWB GTX — supports up to 185 kW, while the 86 kWh battery in the LWB and LWB GTX supports up to 200 kW; in both cases a 10–80% charge takes around 26–30 minutes.

Charging times at a wallbox

At 11 kW from a three-phase wallbox, the 79 kWh battery charges from empty to full in approximately 8 hours, and the 86 kWh battery in around 8 hours 30 minutes, making overnight charging the natural routine for all variants. On a single-phase supply, the three-phase onboard charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge on the 79 kWh to around 22 hours and on the 86 kWh to around 23 hours 30 minutes. A three-phase wallbox connection makes the most practical use of the 11 kW onboard charger for regular home or depot charging.

Cable choice

With an 11 kW three-phase onboard charger across all variants, an 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match for every ID.Buzz at any wallbox or public AC charge point. It handles the full charging capability of all variants and connects to every Type 2 installation built to the IEC 62196-2 standard. A 22 kW cable covers all ID.Buzz variants identically and provides forward compatibility for any future vehicle with a 22 kW onboard charger.

Length: finding the right fit

Voldt® Type 2 cables are available in lengths from 4 m up to 40 m. Given the ID.Buzz's van dimensions, cable length deserves more consideration than with a standard passenger car: the right rear charging port sits further back from the nose, and parking alignment relative to a wallbox may vary. A 6 m cable suits straightforward installations where the van parks nose-in to a wall-mounted wallbox. An 8 m or 10 m cable is the more practical choice for home garages and driveways where the exact parking position varies. For public charge points, workplace bays, and any installation where the charger position relative to the van is not fixed, lengths from 10 m upward remove any concern about reach, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 m for installations where a longer run is genuinely needed.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The ID.Buzz's large batteries make the Voldt® portable EV charger most practical for extended top-ups at destinations rather than full cycles, though it remains a useful option at campsites, event venues, ferry terminals, and any location with industrial CEE sockets. Because all ID.Buzz variants have a three-phase onboard charger, they draw across all three phases at a three-phase CEE socket: a 32A three-phase socket provides 22 kW at the outlet but the van's 11 kW ceiling applies, giving the same result as a 16A three-phase socket, which delivers exactly 11 kW. A full charge from empty on the 79 kWh battery takes approximately 8 hours, and on the 86 kWh battery around 8 hours 30 minutes. At a 16A single-phase CEE socket, the onboard charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge on the 79 kWh to approximately 22 hours and on the 86 kWh to around 23 hours 30 minutes, which suits a multi-day stop or overnight top-up. The 32A three-phase portable charger is the most versatile choice for households or fleets that also include other EVs with varying battery sizes and charger ratings.

Voldt® charging cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and manufactured according to IATF 16949 automotive quality standards. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws.
