Volkswagen ID.5 charging cable

Volkswagen ID.5 charging cable

11kW
The Volkswagen ID.5 has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Volkswagen ID.5 charging cable

The Volkswagen ID.5 is a fully electric SUV-coupé built on the MEB platform, sharing its underpinnings with the ID.4 but with a sloping fastback roofline and a sportier profile. It is available in three powertrain configurations: a 52 kWh entry variant with a single 125 kW (170 hp) rear motor and a WLTP range of around 365 km (227 miles); a 77 kWh mid variant with a 210 kW (286 hp) rear motor and up to 554 km (344 miles); and the GTX with a 79 kWh battery, dual motors producing 250 kW (340 hp) all-wheel drive, and a WLTP range of around 528 km (328 miles). The 0–100 km/h time is approximately 9.0 seconds for the entry variant, 6.7 seconds for the 77 kWh, and 5.6 seconds for the GTX.

The combined CCS2 charging inlet is located on the right rear flank of the vehicle across all variants. The 52 kWh version has a 7.2 kW single-phase onboard AC charger. The 77 kWh and GTX variants have an 11 kW three-phase onboard AC charger. DC rapid charging is supported at up to 135 kW on the 52 kWh and 77 kWh models, and up to 175 kW on the GTX, with a 10–80% charge taking around 30 minutes across the range.

Charging at a wallbox

On the 52 kWh variant, the 7.2 kW single-phase onboard charger fills the battery from empty in approximately 8 hours at a wallbox. On the 77 kWh and GTX, the 11 kW three-phase charger completes a full charge in around 8 hours 15 minutes from a three-phase wallbox. On a single-phase supply, the 11 kW charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge on the 77 kWh to around 22 hours, so a three-phase wallbox connection is the practical choice for the larger-battery variants. The 52 kWh single-phase charger is unaffected by supply phase count.

The right cable

An 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match for every variant of the ID.5. On the 52 kWh, it handles the full 7.2 kW AC charging capability without restriction. On the 77 kWh and GTX, it matches the standard 11 kW three-phase onboard charger exactly. A 22 kW cable covers all ID.5 variants identically and provides forward compatibility for any future vehicle with a 22 kW onboard charger.

From port to charge point

Voldt® Type 2 cables are available in lengths from 4 m up to 40 m. A 6 m cable suits most home wallbox setups, providing comfortable reach from a wall-mounted charger to the right rear inlet without excess cable on the ground. An 8 m or 10 m cable gives more flexibility for garages or driveways where the car cannot always be positioned squarely in front of the charge point. For workplace charging and public bays where the charger position relative to the car varies, lengths from 10 m upward remove any concern about reach, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 m for installations where a longer run is genuinely needed.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The Voldt® portable EV charger connects via the Type 2 portion of the CCS2 inlet and is a practical option for ID.5 owners at locations with industrial CEE sockets. On the 77 kWh and GTX, the three-phase 11 kW onboard charger draws across all three phases at a three-phase CEE socket: a 32A three-phase socket provides 22 kW at the outlet but the car's 11 kW ceiling applies, giving a full charge in around 8 hours 15 minutes, the same as a 16A three-phase socket which supplies exactly 11 kW. At a 16A single-phase CEE socket, the onboard charger draws one phase at 3.7 kW, extending a full charge on the 77 kWh battery to approximately 22 hours, which suits a multi-day stop rather than a quick top-up. On the 52 kWh variant, the 7.2 kW single-phase charger draws one phase at any CEE socket type, giving a full charge in around 8 hours from a 32A or 16A three-phase socket, and around 15 hours from a 16A single-phase socket at 3.7 kW. The 32A three-phase portable charger is the most versatile option across all ID.5 variants and any other vehicles in a mixed household or fleet.
