Volkswagen e-up! Gen 2 charging cable

11kW
The Volkswagen e-up! Gen 2 has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Volkswagen e-up! Gen 2 charging cable

The second-generation Volkswagen e-up! (2019–2023) is a fully electric city car based on the updated Mk2 up! platform, introduced with a significantly larger battery than the original. A 36.8 kWh lithium-ion NMC battery (32.3 kWh usable) replaces the earlier 18.7 kWh pack, extending the WLTP range from around 133 km to 258 km (160 miles). The drivetrain carries over unchanged: a 61 kW (83 hp) permanent magnet motor drives the front wheels via a single-speed reduction gear, producing 210 Nm of torque, with a 0–100 km/h time of 11.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 km/h.

The combined CCS2 charging inlet is on the right rear flank of the vehicle. The e-up!'s onboard AC charger uses a two-phase architecture, drawing 16A on each of two phases (L1 and L2). On a two- or three-phase supply this delivers 2 × 16A × 230V = 7.2 kW. On a single-phase supply, only one phase is available, and the charger draws 16A on that phase for 3.7 kW; it cannot exceed 16A on a single phase regardless of what the supply offers. DC rapid charging at up to 40 kW via the CCS2 connection is available as an optional extra, enabling a 10–80% charge in approximately 37 minutes.

Charging times at a wallbox

At 7.2 kW from a two- or three-phase wallbox, the e-up!'s 32.3 kWh usable battery charges from empty to full in approximately 5 hours. On a single-phase wallbox, the charger draws 3.7 kW, extending a full charge to around 9 hours 30 minutes. A two- or three-phase wallbox connection makes the most practical use of the e-up!'s onboard charger for daily home charging.

Choosing the right cable

With a 7.2 kW onboard charger, an 11 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the correct match for the second-generation e-up! at any wallbox or public AC charge point. It handles the car's full charging capability without restriction and connects to every Type 2 installation built to the IEC 62196-2 standard. A 22 kW cable covers the e-up! identically and adds forward compatibility for any future vehicle with a higher-rated onboard charger.

How long a cable do you need?

Voldt® Type 2 cables are available in lengths from 4 m up to 40 m. For home use, a 6 m cable provides comfortable reach from a wall-mounted wallbox to the right rear inlet without excess cable on the ground. An 8 m or 10 m cable suits driveways or garages where the car cannot always be parked in the same position relative to the charge point. For public charge points and workplace bays where the charger position varies, lengths from 10 m upward remove any concern about reach, and Voldt® supplies cables up to 40 m for installations where a longer run is genuinely needed.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

The e-up!'s 32.3 kWh usable battery is compact enough to charge fully in a reasonable time from industrial CEE sockets, making the Voldt® portable EV charger a practical option at campsites, workplaces, and event venues. The two-phase charger architecture means the e-up! achieves its full 7.2 kW rate whenever both L1 and L2 are available, which is the case at both 16A and 32A three-phase CEE sockets. At either socket type, a full charge from empty takes approximately 5 hours. At a 16A single-phase CEE socket, only one phase is available and the car draws 3.7 kW, extending a full charge to approximately 9 hours 30 minutes. The 32A three-phase portable charger is the most versatile option, reaching the e-up!'s full 7.2 kW ceiling and covering any other vehicles in a mixed household or fleet at their respective charging ceilings.

Voldt® charging cables are CE, UKCA and TÜV certified and manufactured according to IATF 16949 automotive quality standards. Single-piece moulded connectors, no glue or screws. IP67-rated for operation between −30°C and +50°C. 100% copper conductors with silver-plated contacts. Tested beyond 10,000 connection cycles.
