The Porsche Cayenne Electric is Porsche's first fully electric Cayenne, built on an evolved version of the 800-volt Premium Platform Electric and available in three variants. The entry-level Cayenne Electric produces 300 kW (325 kW with Launch Control) and reaches 0–100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, the Cayenne S Electric raises output to 490 kW and 3.8 seconds, and the Cayenne Turbo Electric produces up to 850 kW (1,156 PS) with Launch Control for a 2.5-second sprint. Top speeds range from 230 to 260 km/h. All three share a 113 kWh (108 kWh usable) NMC battery, dual-motor all-wheel drive with Porsche Traction Management, and WLTP ranges between 623 km (387 miles) and 653 km (406 miles) depending on variant and specification. The standard onboard AC charger is rated at 11 kW across three phases, with a 22 kW three-phase charger available as an option. DC fast charging peaks at 400 kW under optimal conditions, bringing 10–80 % in approximately 15 minutes. The CCS2 charging port sits on the left rear flank.

Wallbox charging times for the Porsche Cayenne Electric

The Cayenne Electric's 108 kWh usable battery is one of the largest in the segment, and AC charge times reflect this. With the standard 11 kW three-phase onboard charger and a correctly rated Type 2 cable, a full charge from empty takes approximately 10 hours and 50 minutes including typical efficiency losses of around 10 %. Cars equipped with the optional 22 kW charger halve that figure to around 5 hours and 25 minutes on a three-phase supply: a meaningful difference for a battery of this capacity.

On a single-phase 32 A home wallbox, which remains the most common residential installation across the UK and much of Europe, the cable rating determines how much power reaches the car. With the standard 11 kW charger and a 22 kW cable (32 A per phase), the single available phase delivers 7.4 kW, bringing the charge time to approximately 16 hours. An 11 kW cable restricts current to 16 A on that single phase, limiting the rate to 3.7 kW and pushing the charge time past 32 hours: entirely impractical, even over a full weekend. For single-phase owners, a 22 kW cable is not optional, it is essential.

With the optional 22 kW charger on single-phase, the car's internal electronics still cap at 7.4 kW from a single phase, so the charge time remains approximately 16 hours. The 22 kW charger's advantage is reserved for homes with a three-phase supply, where it delivers the full 22 kW.

DC fast charging: Porsche-level performance

The Cayenne Electric's 800-volt architecture enables DC fast charging at up to 400 kW under optimal conditions (390 kW sustained). The battery reaches 10–80 % in approximately 15 minutes at an average charging speed of around 302 kW. A full 0–100 % charge takes roughly 60 minutes once the battery management system's end-of-charge taper is accounted for. In practical terms, Porsche states that 10 minutes of charging adds up to 325 km of range: enough to cover the next major leg of any journey without a lengthy stop. At 400-volt charging stations, the battery's bank-charging feature splits the 800-volt pack into two 400-volt halves, allowing charging at up to 200 kW without the need for a voltage booster.

The right Type 2 cable for the Cayenne Electric

Given the 108 kWh battery, the choice of cable has a substantial impact on AC charging times. A 22 kW Type 2 cable is the recommended choice for every Cayenne Electric owner, regardless of which onboard charger is fitted.

With the standard 11 kW charger, an 11 kW cable delivers the full 11 kW at a three-phase wallbox. On a single-phase 32 A wallbox, however, the 11 kW cable's 16 A per-phase rating restricts the charge to 3.7 kW, pushing a full charge past 32 hours. A 22 kW cable removes this bottleneck by allowing the full 32 A on the single available phase, bringing 7.4 kW to the car and reducing the charge time to around 16 hours: still a long session, but manageable with overnight or day-long charging.

With the optional 22 kW charger, a 22 kW cable is the only cable that delivers the charger's full capacity on a three-phase supply. An 11 kW cable would cap it at 11 kW, forfeiting half the potential on three-phase.

A 22 kW cable also future-proofs the purchase for any subsequent vehicle with 22 kW AC charging, and handles both single-phase and three-phase scenarios without compromise.

Cable length and parking

The Cayenne Electric's CCS2 port is positioned on the left rear flank. Reversing towards the wallbox generally places the port closest to the charger, keeping the cable tidy and out of walkways.

Portable charging with a CEE charger

A full charge takes approximately 10 hours and 50 minutes: feasible as an overnight option at a property with industrial power. With the optional 22 kW charger, a 32 A three-phase CEE socket delivers 22 kW, bringing the full charge time down to around 5 hours and 25 minutes. A 16 A three-phase CEE socket caps at 11 kW regardless of charger option.

At a blue 16 A single-phase CEE socket, the standard fixture at holiday campsites and caravan parks across Europe, output is limited to 3.7 kW. A full charge takes approximately 32 hours: not a realistic proposition for a battery this size. Even over a long weekend stay, a blue CEE hook-up recovers only a fraction of the total range. Red three-phase CEE sockets are not standard campsite infrastructure: they belong to industrial premises, workshops, and some commercial marinas.

From a standard European household socket (Schuko), continuous output is restricted to a safe 2.3 kW (10 A). A full charge would take over 51 hours. A domestic socket serves strictly as an emergency fallback and is entirely impractical for a battery of this capacity.
