Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In Charging cable

3.7kW
The Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In has a charging capacity of 3,7kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 3,7kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 3,7kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: Mercedes GLE 500e Plug-In Charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 500e 4MATIC is a large plug-in hybrid SUV from the W166 generation, pairing a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine with an 85 kW electric motor for a combined system output of 442 PS and 650 Nm of torque. The 8.8 kWh usable lithium-ion battery gives a NEDC electric range of around 30 km, with real-world figures typically between 20 and 25 km depending on load and conditions. AC charging runs through a 3.7 kW single-phase onboard charger at 16A, via a Type 2 socket on the right side of the rear bumper. No DC rapid charging is available on this model.

The right Type 2 cable for the GLE 500e in the UK

The GLE 500e's 3.7 kW single-phase onboard charger sets the ceiling. Every wallbox and every public AC point in the UK delivers the same 3.7 kW to the car, whether the supply is a domestic single-phase 7.4 kW, a public single-phase 32A, or a three-phase 11 kW or 22 kW post. That flattens the usual cable comparison: the question isn't how fast, but which cable makes sense across the sockets you'll actually use. An 11 kW-rated Type 2 cable is the natural match for the car. It draws its 16A ceiling comfortably on any supply, works everywhere the GLE 500e can plug in, and delivers a full charge from empty in approximately 2 hours 30 minutes on any wallbox or post. Most GLE 500e owners charge overnight and start each morning with a full battery for the electric part of the day's driving.

A 22 kW-rated cable is the forward-looking option for households running a second EV, or planning to replace the GLE 500e with a car that has a higher onboard AC rating. It works identically with the GLE 500e today, and it means one cable stays in the boot when a future vehicle with 11 or 22 kW three-phase AC charging arrives on the drive. Voldt® supplies Type 2 cables in 6, 8, 10 and 15 metre lengths. The port sits on the right side of the rear bumper, so reversing towards the wallbox is the natural approach at home, and 6 metres suits most driveways and garages. Eight metres handles public bays where the post isn't always aligned with the vehicle's rear corner, and 10 or 15 metres covers hotels, workplaces and second addresses where the vehicle can't always park directly beside the charge point. The full Voldt® Type 2 cable range covers every combination of length and rating.

Portable charging for the GLE 500e

Because the GLE 500e is capped at 3.7 kW single-phase, a portable charger isn't a slower alternative to the fixed cable: it's a genuine equal, delivering the same charge in the same time from whatever socket happens to be at hand. That makes the GLE 500e a straightforward car to keep charged wherever it goes. The Voldt® 3.7 kW blue CEE portable charger uses the 16A single-phase blue commando socket found at caravan sites, marinas and outdoor commercial premises. It completes a full charge from empty in approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, matching the speed of a home wallbox. The Voldt® 11 kW three-phase red CEE portable charger is worth considering for owners with access to industrial red CEE sockets at workshops, farms or business premises. The GLE 500e draws its 3.7 kW from a single phase and completes a full charge in the same 2 hours 30 minutes, so the value is not extra speed but reach: any red CEE outlet becomes a charging point without changing hardware.

The Voldt® three-pin domestic charger deserves particular attention on this car. Because the GLE 500e's ceiling sits close to what a standard UK 13A socket can safely sustain, the three-pin charger becomes a fully viable everyday option rather than a fallback: a full charge from empty in approximately 3 hours 10 minutes at 2.8 kW, from any working household socket, within the limits of what the wiring can sustain. A built-in thermal sensor monitors the connection temperature during charging and automatically reduces the current if the plug or socket warms beyond a safe level, so the three-pin charger works confidently at family addresses, holiday cottages, and any location where a dedicated wallbox isn't installed.

Built to outlast the car it charges

Every Voldt® cable and portable charger is CE, UKCA and TÜV certified, with an IP67 rating that keeps the connection sealed against rain, dust and general driveway grit through the British seasons. Contacts are silver-plated copper for reliable current transfer and minimal heat build-up over long charging cycles, and every connector is tested for 10,000 mating cycles: comfortably beyond a decade of daily home charging. All Voldt® cables and portable chargers ship with a 3-year warranty.
