Collection: Mercedes EQC 4Matic 2019-2020 charging cable

The Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4MATIC launched in 2019 as the brand's first purpose-built electric SUV, carrying an 80 kWh usable battery paired with a 7.4 kW single-phase onboard charger. That 7.4 kW is the ceiling for all AC charging, whether at home or at a public charge point with a higher-rated output. At 7.4 kW, the EQC adds around 45 km of range per hour and charges fully in approximately eleven hours. The CCS Type 2 inlet sits on the right rear flank, behind the passenger door.

Which charging cable fits the Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4MATIC

The correct choice is a Voldt® 7.4 kW Type 2 charging cable, which matches the car's maximum AC charging rate precisely. A 22 kW cable works equally well at 7.4 kW and is worth considering if you plan to use it with a three-phase capable vehicle in the future. An 11 kW three-phase cable is not the correct match for this car: its conductors are rated at 16A per phase, and on a single-phase supply it delivers only 16A × 230V = 3.7 kW, halving the charge rate and extending a full charge to around 21.5 hours.

The right-rear port mirrors the position of a conventional fuel filler, so reversing into a bay puts the port closest to the post. At most public charge bays, parking orientation is not always your choice, which makes cable length more important than it might seem on a home driveway. An 8-metre cable is the comfortable everyday standard for mixed home and public use. A 10-metre cable is the practical choice for stress-free parking in any orientation. A 15-metre cable removes all doubt on longer driveways and unpredictable hotel car parks.

Portable charging for travel and outdoor use

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable connects to industrial CEE sockets and is available up to 22 kW via three-phase CEE. For the EQC, the single-phase onboard charger draws from one phase only. On a 16A single-phase CEE socket (3.7 kW), a full charge takes around 21.5 hours. On a 16A three-phase CEE socket, the car again draws from one phase at 16A = 3.7 kW, with the same 21.5-hour result. On a 32A three-phase CEE socket, one phase carries 32A at 230V = 7.4 kW, completing a full charge in approximately eleven hours, matching the speed of a dedicated wallbox.

Red three-phase CEE sockets are found at industrial sites, workshops, and some commercial marinas. Standard European campsite hookup points use blue single-phase 16A CEE sockets, which cap output at 3.7 kW and result in the 21.5-hour charge time noted above. For an 80 kWh battery, a campsite blue socket is suitable only for partial top-ups during a multi-night stay. On a standard domestic socket at 2.3 kW, a full charge takes around 35 hours: relevant only as an emergency fallback over multiple days, not a regular charging method.
