The Kia Soul EV is available with a 39 kWh battery in selected European markets or a 64 kWh battery across the full range. The standard onboard charger is a 7.2 kW single-phase unit drawing 32A. An 11 kW three-phase charger is available as an option on higher-specification variants. At 7.2 kW, a full charge takes around six hours for the 39 kWh battery and around nine and a half for the 64 kWh. At 11 kW on a three-phase supply, the 64 kWh charges in around six hours. DC fast charging peaks at 50 kW on the 39 kWh battery and 77 kW on the 64 kWh. The Type 2 and CCS2 charge port sits on the left front flank, behind a flap in the nose.

Choosing the right charging cable

The right cable depends on which charger is fitted. Most Soul EVs carry the standard 7.2 kW single-phase charger, which draws 32A from a single line. A 7.4 kW Voldt® single-phase Type 2 cable is the ideal match for these variants: it carries the full 32A, is lighter and more compact than a three-phase alternative, and avoids two idle conductors that a three-phase cable would leave permanently unused on a single-phase car.

For variants fitted with the optional 11 kW three-phase charger, a 22 kW Voldt® Type 2 cable is the right choice: it delivers the full 7.2 kW at home on a single-phase wallbox and the full 11 kW at public three-phase posts.

Whichever charger is fitted, the one cable to avoid is an 11 kW three-phase cable. Its 16A conductors restrict any single-phase wallbox to 3.7 kW, nearly doubling home charge times on every variant. If you are unsure which charger your car has, the Kia Connect app or your original purchase documentation will confirm it.

The left-front port suits nose-in parking well. A 6-metre cable handles most home driveways. An 8-metre cable is the practical standard for mixed home and public use. A 10-metre cable covers awkward bay layouts. A 15-metre cable removes all uncertainty at hotel car parks and unfamiliar infrastructure.

Portable charging away from home

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable delivers output matched to the Soul EV's onboard charger. For variants with the 11 kW charger, a red three-phase 16A CEE socket delivers the full 11 kW: around six hours for the 64 kWh battery. For standard single-phase variants, both red and blue CEE sockets deliver 3.7 kW. The blue single-phase 16A CEE sockets typical of campsites and caravan hookups deliver 3.7 kW on every Soul EV variant: a full charge of the 39 kWh in around ten hours, or a partial overnight top-up of the 64 kWh.

The Voldt® Schuko/Type G compatible portable charger draws 2.3 kW (10A safe limit) from a standard domestic wall socket. With the 64 kWh battery, a full charge takes close to thirty hours, making this strictly an emergency fallback. On the 39 kWh, the same charge takes around sixteen to eighteen hours: still impractical as a primary method.
