Collection: Fiat Topolino Charging cable

The Fiat Topolino is a compact electric quadricycle built on the same Stellantis platform as the Citroën Ami and Opel Rocks Electric: a 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery drives a 6 kW (8 hp) motor to a top speed of 45 km/h, covering up to 75 km on a single charge. It measures just 2.53 metres in length and weighs under 500 kg, making it one of the smallest electric vehicles on European roads. In many European markets, it can be driven from the age of 14 or 16. The Topolino ships with a built-in charging cable that terminates in a Schuko (Type F) plug for charging from a standard household socket. There is no Type 2 port and no DC fast charging capability. The onboard charger is a compact unit rated at approximately 1.8 kW (8 A), delivering the same charge rate regardless of the power source.

Charging at home with the built-in cable

The Topolino's integrated Schuko cable is designed for daily home charging. Drawing approximately 8 A from a standard household socket, it delivers around 1.8 kW. A full charge from empty takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes: plug in after a day of short trips around town and the battery is full well before bedtime. For a quadricycle used primarily for urban commuting, the built-in cable covers the vast majority of charging needs without any additional equipment.

Charging at public Type 2 stations with an adapter

The Topolino's built-in cable terminates in a Schuko plug, which means it can only connect to a standard household socket. It cannot plug into the public Type 2 charging network that spans Europe's cities, supermarket car parks, workplace facilities, and residential streets. A Voldt® Type 2 to Schuko adapter bridges this gap. The adapter plugs into any untethered Type 2 charging station and provides a Schuko outlet on the other end, allowing the Topolino's built-in cable to connect directly.

The Topolino's onboard charger is a compact unit capped at approximately 1.8 kW (8 A), so the charging rate at a public station is the same as at a household socket: expect a full charge in around 3 to 4 hours. The adapter does not increase the speed, but it does something equally valuable: it gives the Topolino access to thousands of public charge points it would otherwise be locked out of entirely. For owners who park on-street, live in a flat without a dedicated socket, or simply want to top up while the car is parked at a supermarket or workplace, the adapter is the difference between being able to charge and not being able to charge at all.

When the adapter makes a difference

The Topolino's 75 km range is generous for urban commuting but tight for a full day of mixed errands. The adapter is particularly useful for owners without a dedicated home socket near their parking space, those who park on-street and depend on public infrastructure, or anyone who wants to leave the car charging in a supermarket or workplace car park while going about their day. In cities with free or low-cost public charging, it can even reduce the cost of daily use compared to metered domestic electricity.

The adapter is compact, fits in the Topolino's storage compartment alongside the built-in cable, and requires no installation or configuration. Plug it into the Type 2 station, connect the Topolino's Schuko cable, and charging begins.
