BMW X5 xDrive charging cable

The BMW X5 has been available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain since 2015, and over three generations the powertrain has grown substantially more capable. Choosing the right charging cable for your BMW X5

The left-front port position means pulling forward into a bay puts the port closest to the post in most public charging layouts. The X5 is a large vehicle, and the PHEV battery charges quickly enough relative to its size that cable reach is a smaller concern than on a full EV. That said, a generous cable length removes small daily frustrations in layouts where the post is not perfectly placed. A 6-metre cable covers most home setups comfortably. An 8-metre cable is the more practical all-round choice, handling most public post positions without needing to reposition a car of this size, and worth defaulting to for most X5 owners.
