BMW iX1 Charging cable

BMW iX1 Charging cable

11kW
The BMW iX1 has a charging capacity of 11kW. So we recommend using a charging cable of atleast 11kW for optimal charging speeds.

22kW cable compatible
However, please be aware that a 22kW cable is perfectly capable of charging at 11kW. With a 22kW cable you'll have guaranteed optimal charging speeds in the event of a new car or a possible upgrade in charging capacity.

Collection: BMW iX1 Charging cable

The BMW iX1 is available in two fully electric variants sharing the same 66.5 kWh battery: the rear-wheel-drive eDrive20 and the dual-motor all-wheel-drive xDrive30. Both carry 64.7 kWh of usable capacity. The eDrive20, introduced in late 2023, produces 150 kW and covers between 265 and 295 miles in the WLTP cycle; the xDrive30, available from 2022, produces 230 kW across two motors and delivers up to 270 miles of WLTP range despite the additional weight of the second motor. The performance gap between them is significant: the eDrive20 reaches 62 mph in 8.6 seconds, while the xDrive30 does the same in 5.6 seconds. Both share identical charging hardware, port placement, and connector type, which makes the cable choice the same for both variants.

DC rapid charging via CCS runs up to 130 kW on both variants, covering 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes under favourable conditions. For AC charging at home or at public posts, the standard onboard charger is rated at 11 kW three-phase, with a 22 kW charger available as a paid option. At 11 kW, a full charge from near-empty takes approximately six and a half hours, a comfortable overnight charge. At 22 kW, that drops to around three and a half hours, a useful afternoon top-up. The Type 2 charging port and CCS inlet sit on the right rear flank, which suits reverse-in parking bays and rear-first approaches at many public charge points.

Choosing a cable for the BMW iX1

The iX1 uses a Type 2 connector for AC charging, so a Voldt® Type 2 charging cable is the correct choice for both eDrive20 and xDrive30. The standard onboard charger supports 11 kW three-phase, and a Voldt® 11 kW cable matches it precisely. If your iX1 was specified with the optional 22 kW charger, a 22 kW three-phase cable unlocks the faster charge rate and reduces a full charge to around three and a half hours. With 64.7 kWh of usable battery, cable choice here has a meaningful impact on daily charging convenience in a way it simply does not on smaller-battery PHEVs.

The right-rear port position means reversing into a bay puts the port directly adjacent to the charge post in most layouts, which works cleanly with a 5 or 6-metre cable. For forward-pull-in bays or posts where the cable runs along the side of the car, an 8-metre cable removes the need to angle the car or stretch the cable, and is the more practical default for varied charging locations. A 10-metre cable covers the full range of home and public positions without any repositioning needed.

Rapid charging on the road

The CCS connector on the iX1 handles DC rapid charging up to 130 kW. On a compatible rapid charger, the iX1 adds around 60 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes, and the 10 to 80% charge completes in around 30 minutes. For longer journeys, the iX1 also supports battery preheating via navigation: when a DC station is entered as a destination, the car automatically brings the battery to its optimal temperature before arrival, maintaining the peak charge rate throughout the stop.

Portable charging for the BMW iX1

The Voldt® portable CEE charging cable is available in models up to 22 kW via three-phase CEE. For iX1s with the standard 11 kW charger, a 32A three-phase red CEE socket delivers the full 11 kW, covering an overnight stop in around six and a half hours. For iX1s with the optional 22 kW charger, a 32A three-phase red CEE socket delivers the full 22 kW, reducing that to around three and a half hours. Campsites and marinas across Europe typically provide blue single-phase 16A CEE sockets, which cap out at 3.7 kW: at that rate the 64.7 kWh battery takes around 18 to 20 hours from near-empty, making campsite stops better suited to a partial top-up than a full overnight charge. Where only a standard household socket is available, the Schuko portable charger delivers a safe 2.3 kW. At that rate a full charge from near-empty takes over 28 hours, making it suitable only as an emergency top-up or for adding a short stretch of range during a long overnight stay.
