BMW charges at home but public charging is unreliable

Are you one of those people who can charge your car at home with no problems using 220 volts, but at public charging stations with 380 volts, charging fails or causes problems? Typically, the opposite happens: the problems are with home charging, but in this case, it's the external charging that fails. This issue can affect various car brands, including BMW. How to properly charge an electric BMWby understanding the problem? Home charging delivers a smooth charge, at the correct and easily predictable times. At public charging stations, however, sometimes the charging session doesn't start or stops before it's fully completed. The charging station may be experiencing a problem, so it's worth trying a different location to determine whether you were unlucky in choosing the faulty station or whether the problem persists. If the problem still hasn't been resolved, check your car's settings to make sure there aren't any options that limit three-phase charging, make sure you have the right cable, and check that the charging station is operating correctly. Also, check the compatibility of the charger with the features permitted by your BMW. If necessary, try changing countries and attempting to charge elsewhere. If this last attempt doesn't resolve the issue, contact BMW Service. We recommend writing down the day, time, charging station type, location where you attempted to charge, the weather, and your battery percentage. This will allow BMW Service to obtain additional information to better understand the cause of the problem.
