BMW AC charging works differently from DC fast charging

It's important to clarify the difference between 220 Volt AC charging and 380 Volt DC charging. Even electric car owners often find themselves confused between the two alternative recharging methods. Many BMW owners also report potential inconsistencies and malfunctions, but in reality, they are simply two different charging methods. AC charging (220 Volt) is ideal for home use, while 380 Volt DC charging stations are typically used in public settings (for example, charging stations at motorway service stations or in city parking lots). A single phase 220 Volt AC charging session is slower, more accessible, and more economical, while a faster and more efficient charge requires a higher priced three phase 380 Volt DC charging. With this in mind, a longer charging time at 220 volts isn't a problem, but rather a logical consequence of the charging method chosen. To gain a better understanding of the practical differences, we recommend trying both charging methods under similar conditions, allowing for a fair and accurate comparison. In both cases, it's always helpful to have a quality Voldt BMW charging cable that's compatible with the vehicle and charger's specifications, while respecting the typical current parameters of the two charging methods.
