Two motors and 360 kW drive all four wheels of the launch version, the C 400 4MATIC, whose battery offers 94 kWh of usable capacity for up to 762 km on the WLTP cycle. Further versions are due to follow. Standard AC charging runs at 11 kW and an optional onboard unit raises it to 22 kW, which is why a charging cable for the electric Mercedes-Benz C-Class has to suit both. Every phase in it is rated for 32 A. Fitted with the optional charger, the C-Class saloon draws a full 22 kW from a three-phase wall box or public post and charges completely in roughly five hours, where the standard charger needs about ten. Many homes have only a single-phase supply, and there the car takes 32 A from one phase, installation permitting, which means 7.4 kW, or about 75 kWh across a 12-hour night, enough for some 600 km on the WLTP figures. Limit the cable to 16 A and the same wall box delivers 3.7 kW.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003eBack the C-Class into the drive and its right rear flap finishes close to the masonry, and six metres of cable are plenty for a wall box mounted on that flank. Nose-first parking leaves almost the whole 4.88-metre body between flap and wall, so eight metres is the length to pick. A second car parked across the front of the wall box pushes the figures to ten metres when you reverse in and 15 metres when you drive in forwards.
